Colloidal glasses

• Glassy state is attained when system fails to reach equilibrium due to crowding of constituent particles

• In molecular glasses, glassy state is reached by rapidly lowering the temperature

• In colloidal glasses, glassy state is reached by increasing the concentration of the jamming entity above random loose packing threshold leading to a disordered state

• Common examples: toothpaste, hair gel, shaving foam, concentrated suspensions, emulsions, etc.
