• The current strain is unique

• Not result of recombination of Asian & African genotypes

• Whether the origin is in Indian ocean islands or India is not clear

• Though African genotype present in India in 2000 is closer to Uganda-82, it is closest to the current strains

• Association of the the mutations observed in the current isolates and Yawat-2000 strain with the extensive transmissibility needs to be determined
