      Estimates of the distortive effects of window absorption and backscattering from source backings onβ-spectra are presented as observed in the intermediate imageβ-ray spectrometer. The existence of a scatter-initiating thickness is pointed out and explained. These correction factors are applied to theβ-spectrum of Pm147 to estimate their validity.

      The β-transition from Fe59 leading to the 1430 Kev excited state of Co59 is observed. In addition to the γ-rays known to exist, a 70 Kev γ-ray and its corresponding conversion line are observed. Its conversion coefficient of αtotal = 0.6 ± 0.45 requires an angular momentum change of not more than two units.

      An experimental arrangement combining the photoelectron and organic crystal scintillation spectrometer methods, called a photoelectron-scintillation spectrometer, is described and its utility in making direct measurements of conversion coefficients without a specific knowledge of source-strength, source-detector geometry, efficiency of detection and the energy dependent angular distribution effects and multiple scattering effects, is described.

      By this method and the conventional method of measuring X- andγ-ray intensities with NaI(Tl) crystal, the conversion coefficients of the 279 Kev. transition in Tl203 are found to be αK=0·15±0·02 and αK=0·153±0·012, respectively. These values indicate that there are no systematic errors in the scintillation spectrometric methods as compared to the magnetic spectrometric results in this case.

      Experimental results of angular correlations involving K-conversion electrons in Cs133 reported earlier (Subba Rao, 1961) have been interpreted with nuclear structure-dependent conversion electron parameters and conversion electron mixing amplitudes. The calculations and results of these nuclear structure-dependent conversion electron parameters is presented. The interpretation leads to the nuclear structure parameter −5·97<λ <+3·41 indicating that the intranuclear part of the internal conversion process is hindered with respect to Weiskopf estimates.

      Gamma-ray spectrum of Tb155 has been obtained from the observed composite spectrum of Tb155+156 and the intensities of gamma-rays of Tb155 have been determined. The level scheme which supports the present results and earlier results of internal conversion electron studies with Tb155 and Eu155 is presented.
