This letter presents a novel single-phase 13-level (13L) single-source switched capacitor multilevel inverter (S3CMLI) topology with a sextuple voltage boost (VB) ability using less power components. This topology comprises two different series-parallel switched-capacitor units interconnected with a cross-connectedunit. The topology features self-voltage balancing due to equal charge and discharge of capacitors in a cycle. Further, the blocking voltage across the switches is less than the output voltage. This signifies advantages overthe other ‘VB’ topologies that use H-bridge for polarity generation. A suitable comparative analysis is carried out with the recent state-of-art to mark the performance in terms of the component count and other parametersthat underline the design of the inverter. Later, the experiment is performed at different load conditions, input variation, and modulation index to prove the effective steady-state operation of the inverter.
