The starting point of this study is the emerging interest in Stance Control Knee-Ankle-Foot orthosis (SCKAFO). SCKAFO is prescribed for many diseases, such as polio, muscle weakness, spinal injury, and multiple sclerosis. There are commercial examples and numerous attempts in literature, but functional SCKAFO is still a challenging issue. Users reject orthosis due to functional, comfortable, and cosmetic issues. This study proposes a new design approach to increase the acceptance rate of the orthosis. Design requirements andqualitative data used in this research were determined using users’ and practitioners’ opinions and information in the relevant articles. Quality function deployment was applied, and the new design was compared with commercialexamples. Since there is no standard for SCKAFO design, measurable design requirements were determined using certain fundamental research and review studies. It was determined that a reliable control system is the most critical design requirement, and other important criteria are low weight and low cost, respectively. The outcomes were also examined from the perspective of orthotist and manufacturers. According to the results, a new design approach was proposed. These outcome parameters and solutions are in line with thelatest design studies. In addition, size, cost, and weight reduction were achieved. The results of this research can be used for personalized solutions that can meet the different needs of individuals or groups in need of specific solutions.
