Shooting Cancer With Magic Bullets: Promises and Challenges of Antibody-drug Conjugates:
Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) are strategically designedformulations for the targeted elimination of cancer cells withoutcausing severe side effects. ADCs first recognise and bindto specific receptors on cancer cells and then enter the cellsvia endocytosis. Inside the cells, the cytotoxic agent attachedto the ADC is released and kills the cells by disrupting the latter’sdefined target. Despite their superior efficacy over classicchemotherapeutics, ADCs face drug resistance in somepatients. Novel ADCs are in development to address thesechallenges.
