Molecular Star: How a Molecule of the Year 2017 Was Made
In molecular self-assembly,molecules put themselves togetherin a predefined way by decoding the information alreadycoded/stored in themolecules. Suitably selected chemical componentsare simply combined in a single-pot under properenvironment. As a consequence, the participating componentsarrange themselves in a three-dimensional array. Thiswork describes the philosophical approaches on the makingof self-assembled coordination cages utilizing building blockslike palladium(II) and organic ligands. An exotic molecule offive-fold symmetry is considered as a particular example todescribe the phenomenon.
