Chloride-catalyzed oxidation of phenol in pulsed-laser irradiation titanium dioxide sols
Guozheng Li Gottfried Grabner Ruth Quint Raimund Quint Nikola Getoff
The kinetics of photolysis of phenol in presence of two kinds of TiO2 colloid in acid aqueous solution medium was studied by transient absorption spectroscopy. The absorbance and quantum yield of the phenoxyl radicals is strongly influenced by the chloride ions. The process of laser flash photolysis of phenol in the presence of chloride has been discussed.

Purification of drinking water by irradiation. A review
The present review deals with the possibilities of water purification by UV-light, solar energy in combination with catalysts (e.g. n-TiO2), as well as by using ionizing radiation (e.g. high energy electrons or γ-rays). The various methods are illustrated by typical examples concerning the degradation of aliphatic and aromatic halogenated pollutants in water. Some probable reaction mechanisms initiated by light or ionizing radiation are also given.
