      The effect of tributylphosphate (tbp), trioctylphosphineoxide (topo), pyridine (py) and some derivative bases of pyridine as auxiliary ligands on the extraction of cadmium (II) by 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone (tta) from an aqueous-buffered solution into benzene was studied. A synergistic enhancement was observed in all the systems. The equilibrium constant and adduct formation constant have been calculated. The results showed that the synergistic extraction was attributable to the formation of the base adducts Cd (tta)2 B and Cd(TTA)2 B2. The main factor affecting the stability of the adduct was considered to be the base strength of the synergist.

      The extraction characteristics of some selected metals from an aqueous buffered solution by LIX 622, a commercial oxime extractant have been studied. The pH1/2 values for extracting different metals with 5 v/v% LIX 622 extractant in methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) have been obtained. The order of extraction of metals with LIX 622 extractant as a function of pH1/2 value is determined and results agree well with the order obtained using salicylaldoxime as chelating ligand for the extraction of these metals.

      The extraction characteristics of some selected metals from an aqueous buffered solution by LIX51. a fluorinated commercial β-diketone extractant, have been investigated. The pH 1/2 (pH at which 50% of the metal ion is extracted) and the logKex values for the extracted metals by 5% (v/v) L1X51 in methylisobutylkctone(MIBK) have been obtained. The order of extraction of metals with LIX51 as a function of pH 1/2 value is: Cu(II) < Pd(II) < Co(II) < Zn(II) < Fe(H) < Ph(II) < Mn(II) < Cd(II) < Ni(II).
