The ambiguity in the assignment of stereochemistry and co-ordination to Cu(II) complexes can be resolved by using x-ray absorption spectroscopic technique. The difficulty in the structural assignment of the Cu-glutamate complex is studied in detail. The Cu-acetylacetonate complex has also been studied as an example of square planar geometry. The Cu-glutamate complex is a distorted octahedral molecule.
