Iodide transport in isolated cells of mouse submaxillary gland

A method has been developed to isolate cells from the submaxillary gland of mouse by treatment with pronase. Three fractions of cells have been isolated having almost equal iodide concentrating activity. The isolated cells show time dependent uphill transport of iodide. The transport is substrate-saturable, having a
K m value of 0.3 μM for iodide. The transport is sensitive to antithyroid drugs, metabolic inhibitors and to some extent to ouabain. Pseudohalide such as thiocyanate competes with the transport of iodide. Thyroid hormones or thyroid stimulating hormone have no significant effect on the iodide transport in these cells. -

Effect of epinephrine on the
in vitro biosynthesis of fibrinogenIn an
in vitro rat liver slice incubation system, the synthesis of fibrinogen, when measured by immunoprecipitation technique was stimulated in the presence of epinephrine. An increase in poly (A)+ RNA content of the liver slice was also observed after epinephrine treatment. Thisin vitro experiment demonstrated that epinephrine stimulatedde novo synthesis of fibrinogen by acting directly on the liver.

To trigger further research on plant mitochondria, the Journal of Biosciences is bringing out a special issue titled "Plant Mitochondria: Properties and Interactions with Other Organelles".
Plant mitochondria are quite distinct and have unique features, such as a cyanide-insensitive alternate pathway. They also interact with chloroplasts to optimize photosynthetic carbon assimilation.
Submissions are welcome until 30 July 2023. The contributions can be original articles, short communications, reviews, or mini-reviews on any topic related to plant mitochondria.
