• Application of electrocatalytic effects of a newly synthesized monomer and graphene quantum dots to modify glassy carbon microelectrode as a sensor for determination of riluzole

Riluzole is a benzothiazole derivative that has neuroprotective properties. In this work, to measure riluzole, a glassy carbon electrode was modified by graphene quantum dots and polymerization of a synthesized monomer(4-(1H-benzimidazole-2-yl)benzene-1,2-diol). Characteristics and morphology of the modified electrode were studied using scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared. Investigation of the electrochemical behaviour ofriluzole on the electrode revealed the electrocatalytic effect of the modified electrode. The repeatability (RSD = 3.7%, n = 7), reproducibility (RSD = 4.2%, n = 4) and long-term stability (RSD = 5.3%, 30 days) of the modified electrode havebeen studied. The calibration curve was linear in the concentration range of 0.8 to 50 ${\mu}$mol l$^{-1}$ riluzole and the limit of detection was found to be 0.1 ${\mu}$mol l$^{-1}$ riluzole. The proposed method has been successfully applied to determine theriluzole in human blood serum samples.
