      Embedding of Riemannian 4-spaces; local and isometric embedding

    • Abstract

       

      We show that if a 4-spacetimeV4 can be embedded intoE5 then, ifbijis the second fundamental form tensor associated withV4, the quantity (traceb)·bij/−1 depends only on intrinsic geometric properties of the spacetime. Such fact is used to obtain a necessary condition for the embedding of aV4 intoE5.
