    • Abstract

Two abnormal gene orders of the X-chromosome ofD. subobscura are described.

The configurations of these in various heterozygotes with Standard and with each other in the salivary gland polytene nuclei show that one differs from Standard by a single inversion In(X)1, and the other by a double included inversion In(X)1+2.

The genetic maps of the various heterozygotes and homozygotes are unexpectedly different from those associated with similar polytene pairing inD. melanogaster, particularly in respect of the great rarity of double cross-overs within, the inverted segment, the negative interference across the inverted segment in In(X)1/Standard, and the absence of influence of In(X)2 in any heterozygote.
