The overtone spectra of the C-H stretch vibrations in salicylaldehyde (o-hydroxy benzaldehyde) at room temperature have been studied in the 200–12000 cm−1 region. Vibrational frequencies and anharmonicity constants for the aryl and alkyl C-H stretch vibrations have been determined. It is noted that the O-H stretch vibration does not appear in the structure at all due to strong intramolecular hydrogen-bonding. The effect of OH substitution on the C-H stretch vibrations has been studied.
