    • Abstract

       

      The laser dyes coumarin 102 (C 102) and LD 473 exhibit dual amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) in inert solvents like benzene under nitrogen laser pumping. The results indicate that the twisting of the electron donor group of the dye molecule, as envisaged earlier, is not an essential prerequisite for the presence of dual ASE. Specific solute—solvent interactions such as H-bonding or exciplex also may not be very important.
