    • Abstract


      Polynuclear metal derivatives ofo-phenylenediamine-N,N,N′,N′-tetrakis-(methylenephosphonic)acid (pdtmp, H8L) have been prepared in aqueous medium. The general formula of derivatives from elemental analysis is M4xH2O [M=Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II);x=2–8]. Ethylenediamine-N,N′-bis(methylenephosphonic) acid (edbmp) complexes of iron(III) Fe3(OH)L2·9H2O, Fe2(OH)2L·H2O have also been studied. The electronic spectra have shown them to be six coordinated with slight distortion from octahedral geometry. Antiferromagnetism has been inferred from magnetic moment data. Infrared spectral studies have been carried out to determine coordination sites.
