    • Abstract

       

      The kinetics of substitution of aquo-ligand from hydroxopenta-aquo chromium (III) byDL-alanine in aqueous medium has been studied spectrophotometrically. The rate law involving the formation of ion-pair has been established in the pH range 4.5–5.4. The reaction rate is higher compared to water exchange and other substitution reactions of hydroxopenta-aquo chromium(III) ion. Activation parameters have been evaluated. A lower ΔH+ value for the reaction suggests that both bond-breaking and bond making are equally important in the transition state.
