10α, 10β and 13-osters of dimethyl shellolate have been prepared from the corresponding 10-bromo and 13-iodo derivatives and the potassium salt ofthreo aleuritic and 16-hydroxytrans 9,10-epoxy hexadecanoic acids. The epoxide ring was selectively opened under acid catalysis to give the correspondingerythroglycol, the ester function remaining intact.
