Refresher Course on Quantum Chemistry

sponsored by

Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore

in collaboration with

School of Chemistry, University of Hyderabad,
Hyderabad 500 046

16 February - 2 March, 2003

Quantum chemistry is considered to be a difficult topic by most students of chemistry. The above workshop for teachers from post-graduate colleges and university departments aims to provide a set of basic lessons in quantum chemistry, and to impart a working knowledge in computational quantum chemistry using personal computers. Emphasis will be to show the relation between quantum chemistry and the rest of chemistry. The practical sessions, which form half of the course, will make use of many software from the Chemistry CD of the Indian Academy of sciences and from elsewhere. The resource persons include

Kalidas Sen, E D Jemmis, M Durga Prasad, T P Radhakrishnan, University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad, M V Rajasekharan, School of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, S R Gadre, Department of Chemistry, University of Pune, Pune.

Teachers who wish to participate in the above Refresher Course may send their application, containing their name, date of birth, complete postal address, residential address, (along with telephone and e-mail addresses) qualifications, teaching experience, courses taught, positions held, etc.

Applications should be sent to:

Professor M Durga Prasad,
School of Chemistry,
University of Hyderabad,
Central University PO,
Hyderabad 500 046.

Email: mdpsc@uohyd.ernet.in,
Phone: (040) 3010221, 3010500 ext 4855 (Off); (040) 481192 (Res)

Selected teachers will be provided local hospitality and actual travel fare by bus or rail (I class or three tier AC) by the shortest route.

Last date for receiving applications: 10 December 2002.

NCBS Neurobiology Symposium on

Networks and Behaviour

January 3-6, 2003

Over the past couple of decades a framework has emerged to study the neuronal substrates of behaviour at multiple levels of neural organization. While there has been an explosion of data at individual levels, the challenge now is to integrate across levels. The focus of this symposium is to understand how emergent properties of molecular and cellular networks contribute to information processing at the systems and behavioural levels
