Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2004

Sayanti Saha, Parvathy Ramakrishnan and Sandhya S Visweswariah



Sayanti Saha is a PhD student in the Department of Molecular Reproduction, Development and Genetics, IISc. She is working in the broad area of cellular signal transduction.


Parvathy Ramakrishnan is a final year BTech. Biotechnology student in Anna University, Chennai.


Sandhya S Visweswariah is an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular Reproduction, Development and Genetics, IISc. Her laboratory is interested in cyclic nucleotide signaling mechanisms in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes.




 



Richard Axel and Linda B Buck received the Nobel Prize for their discoveries leading to an understanding of how odors are perceived. A large family of receptors present in the nasal epithelium are activated by specific odorants and relay information on the signal to the brain, allowing us to have the sense of smell.
