Refresher Course in Immunology

A Refresher Course in Immunology will be held for college/university
teachers at the Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences, University
of Pune, Pune 411 007 from 25 November to 7 December 2002. The course
will consist of lectures and group discussions both on basic and clinical
aspects of immunology with special emphasis on recent advances. The course
also includes a strong hands-on component, on basic and clinical laboratory
based immunological techniques.
The course will cover basic knowledge and recent advances in innate and
adaptive immunity, B & T cells and their receptors, cellular cooperation
in induction of immune response, immune deficiencies, vaccinology, autoimmunity,
transplantation biology, hypersensitivity, monoclonal antibodies and immunotherapy.
Special sessions will be held on interface of molecular biology and immunology,
and use of transgenic model. Practical exercises will be on related topics.
There will be special sessions on use of immunological techniques in laboratory
medicine.
Teachers interested in the course may send their applications through
their employers giving their brief biodata that includes name, date of
birth, postal and e-mail addresses, telephone numbers, qualifications,
teaching experience, courses taught, position held, etc. They should also
indicate the reasons for their participation in the course. Teachers already
working in the field may provide a 100-word abstract of their current
research. The organizers would appreciate information on how the applicant
in likely to be benefited by the course.
Selected participants will be provided local hospitality (double room
accommodation in the University guest house) and railway travel (first
class or three-tier A/C) to and fro by the shortest route between their
place of work and Pune.
