Summer Programme for Students & Teachers - 2003

Physical Research Laboratory

A Summer Programme is being organized at Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad for (i) Students currently studying in first year M Sc in Physics or III year B. Tech. (Engineering Physi-cs) and (ii) Teachers involved in teaching Physics at post-graduate (MSc) level. The purpose of the summer programme is to expose the students/teaching community to frontiers of research in the various fields being pursued at the Laboratory. The selected students/teachers will work on specific projects in association with scientists of the Laboratory. The teachers will have an opportunity to work in advanced laboratories and to evolve a research programme that they can continue after returning to their university/college. A limited number of students in III year BSc will also be considered for the student summer programme. The details of the programme are as under:

(i) For Students : Duration - 2 months (May 12 _ July 11, 2003)

Stipend & Facilities: Rs. 3800/- pm, return II-class train fare by the shortest route and hostel accommodation on a nominal charge. Essential qualifications : I class in BSc ( for students studying in I year MSc) or average I class in all the previous semesters for BTech/ 5 year MSc integrated course in Physics .

(ii) For Teachers: Duration - 1-2 months, dur-ing May 15 _ July 14, 2003.

As per the convenience of the teacher in accordance with the schedule of summer vacation in the concerned university/college, with prior information about the period/dates of visit to PRL. Minimum duration of the visit shall be one month.

Stipend & Facilities: Rs. 6000/- pm, return II AC train fare by the shortest route and guest house/ hostel accommodation on a nominal charge. Essential & Desirable Qualifications: MPhil / PhD in Physics, with a minimum of 3 years' teaching experience. A strong interest in research as evidenced by participation in research projects/published work is desirable. Persons with PhD degree will be preferred.

Applications containing CV of the candidate including: name, date of birth, a passport size photograph, address of the college/university as well as permanent address/address for correspondence, telephone no., email-id, % marks obtained in the various examinations and research interest, duly forwarded by the Head of the Department, should be sent to Head, Academic Services, Physical Research Laboratory at the address mentioned above. Please do not enclose copies of mark sheets/ certificates. For teacher candidates, details of research work being carried out by them along with a list of publications should also be enclosed.

The last date for receiving application for both (i) & (ii) is March 15, 2003. The applications may also be sent on my e-mail (psharma@prl.res.in) or by fax (fax no. 079-630 1502). Applications sent by candidates without being forwarded by the Head of the Department will not be considered.
