Rotation of a superfluid is not uniform but takes place via a lattice of quantized vortices, whose cores (in blue) are parallel to the axis of rotation. Last year’s Nobel Prize winners in physics contributed to the study of the quantum nature of superfluidity and superconductivity (see page 50).
